Broncos Buck The Bears

Coach Brian Gray’s Quote Of The Game: “ Although the team had a good game, the true test will come on Sunday with the first league match-up against Sac State.”

The Team was excited to hit the ice Friday night, hoping to keep their winning streak alive. The Broncos were energized throughout the first period, especially after freshman Alec Atienza opened up the scoring with his fifth goal of the season. With Cal’s net-minder, who was solid in net for the opponent, facing a frenzy of shots from the Bronco’s in the first period, only let four pucks get by him. The Broncos knew they needed to get more pucks to the back of the net and went into the second period ready to do so. More hard work, and a flurry of shots allowed the team to come out of the second period with a 7-0 lead. Although the team had a large lead at the end of the second, they would still need to work hard in the third to come out with the win. Scoring three more goals in the third, and keeping the puck out of their zone gave the Broncos the 10-0 win. Overall, this was an outstanding game for the team. Christina Wood had her first shutout of the year and defensemen Mike Mullen and Joobin Mozaffarimehr stepped it up with some big goals for the Broncos.

Broncos Go 2-0 By Uprooting Stanford On Home Ice

Coach Brian Gray’s Quote of the Game “The toughest part about having a large lead is keeping your head in the game, and not letting the other team back in it.”

Although the Cardinal’s came out with a shortened bench, the Broncos did not back down; going full force for 60 minutes. The Bronco’s dominate from the opening Faceoff by taking a 2-0 lead two minutes into the game. SCU kept up the scoring rushes throughout the entire, and after, the first period the Broncos took a 7-1 lead.

Although the team got into some penalty trouble and let Stanford score two unanswered goals at the start of the second period, the Broncos got back into the game and came out of the period with an 11-5 lead. Going into the third period the team knew they just had to keep their feet moving for twenty more minutes to secure the victory. They were able to keep up their high level of play and finished the game with a 14-5 win! This was truly an awesome game with some great play by two of the team’s freshmen; Alec Atienza and Dave Griffin, who both had Hat-Tricks. Not only did the players work hard the entire game, so did the fans. They stayed energized the whole game and we would really like to thank everyone for coming out and supporting the team! We look forward to next weekend when the team will play Cal and Sac State.

Broncos bend a few branches in their season opener!

Coach Brian Gray’s Quote of the game: “Although they were not there in the first two periods, I am glad the team showed up in the third.”

The Broncos left the first period down one goal, but came out of the locker room to begin the second period with a renewed energy with Jackson Morgus and Jobin Mozaffanmehr assisting freshman Dave Griffin, who netted the first goal of the season for the Broncos. Despite the consistent pressure the players were putting on the Cardinal net-minder, they left the period trailing 2-4. Hungry for their first win of the season, the Broncos returned to the ice knowing what needed to be done to get the “W”. A scoring frenzy occurred in the third period and the Broncos took the lead going up 6-4. However, some penalty trouble really effected the team’s play and the Cardinals came back to tie it up 6-6. The hard work in practice paid off when  Jobin Mozaffanmehr put, what would later be the game winning goal, into the back of the net. The Broncos finished the game with a 8-6 victory over the Stanford Cardinals. Also noted is the terrific netminding of Christina Wood, who made some great saves in her first win with the team.
