Broncos Go 1-1 on the Weekend

Friday night the Broncos took to action against the Sacramento State Hornets. Going into the game the Broncos knew they needed a win in preparation for playoffs, which are coming up in two weeks. The Broncos seemed to be swarming the Hornets net and put up a flurry of shots on the Hornets net-minder. Although the Broncos were playing well, the Hornets struck first and took an early lead. The second period seemed to follow the same tune; both goalies made some fabulous saves and you could see the determination the Broncos had to win the game. The Hornets left the second period with a 4-3 lead. Although down after two, the Broncos still had some fight left in them and went into the third period ready to leave everything on the ice. The Hornets put up a goal early and took a 5-3 lead, but the Broncos did not let this stop them. The team kept moving their feet and began a scoring run. They finished the game with an 8-5 win, showing they are a team to be reckoned with!

Saturday night the Broncos faced the Fresno Bulldogs. Although the team was missing a few players, they stormed out to an early 2-0 lead. The team was playing very strong for most of the first period, but let the Bulldogs score three consecutive goals. The Broncos now down 2-3 played well throughout the second period, but could not reclaim the lead. Going into the third period the team wanted to finish strong and although they played well, they couldn’t seem to hit the back of the net. The game ended with a Bulldogs victory, 7-2.

A Rough Start to the Second Part of the Season

Although it was disappointing that Friday nights game was cancelled due to a scheduling conflict, the Broncos were still looking forward to Saturday night against Northridge.

The Broncos hit the ice ready to play after having more than a month break. The team was well rested, maybe a little out of shape, as well!! But, they seemed to be playing well in the first period. The team ended the first period down 2-5, but knew that they should have played better. Feeling a little winded after the first period, the Broncos let down their guard and allowed the Matadors to score 9 goals in the second period. Feeling a little down on themselves and ready for a little rest before the third period, the team knew they had to finish the game strong. The Broncos looked better in the final period, moving their feet and hustling for the puck, but came up short in the end losing 5-19. It was a tough game to start the second part of the season, but the team plans on practicing hard this week and getting ready for their final few games.

A Weekend Against The Aggies

Friday Night

The Broncos came out strong Friday night against the UC Davis Aggies. They battled their way to the end of the first period with a 1-0 lead. The second period was tough as well, with the Broncos holding Davis to 1 goal and adding two goals to their already established lead. The third period was back and forth and the Broncos held off Davis ending with a 5 to 3 victory. Christina Wood was solid in the net for the Broncos and although the team was down a few players because of injuries, they fought hard and found a way to win the game.

Saturday

The first period was under control. The scoring went back and forth ending with a 3-3 tie. However, the second period was a different story. Davis came out and rallied at the net during two power plays and racked up 4 unanswered goals. The second period ended with Davis ahead 7-3. The Broncos fought back in the third period scoring the first goal but were unable to make up the Davis lead. The Broncos wound up losing the game 8-4.

Now with a break until January, the team will get a chance to rest and heal some injuries. The Broncos are looking to come out strong for the last part of the season.
